The focus on improving availability during the month of January commenced with a workshop in March 2009 to examine the problem, underlying causes, issues and potential industry wide opportunities. The workshop was followed up by the publication How to Win in January, providing guidance on the best ways for retailers and suppliers to meet the challenges and make the necessary improvements for January 2010. To further assist industry partners a range of practical tools and measures was developed by retail and supply trade partners. The Winning in January - improving product availability toolkit provided a reference for companies working on advancing January 2010 performance.

Retail Ready Toolkit - Workshops February 2010
Efficient Consumer Response Australasia (ECRA) recently launched an updated toolkit that provides the basis for industry standards in the development of retail ready packaging (RRP). It also offers a framework for engaging with trading partners in the development of solutions that is not prescriptive in its application.
RRP is one of the most contentious initiatives currently underway in the retail food and grocery sector. One that impacts a broad range of disciplines; has the potential to create tension in the trading relation; has significant impact on environmental packaging factors; and can place a cost impost on suppliers and manufacturers. Samantha Blake, Manager ECRA recently presented the toolkit at workshops held in conjunction with the Australin Insttitute of Packaging. A copy of this presentation is available here.
Inaugural ECRA conference a success
More than 150 senior industry executives attended the inaugural Efficient Consumer Response Australasia (ECRA) Conference held in Sydney on 22-23 October .
The conference offered delegates the unique opportunity to hear from global and local FMCG experts, and featured an afternoon with leading Australasian retailers.
With a theme of Working Together for the Shopper, the conference focussed on placing the shopper at the centre of the business process. Other focuses of the event included the way the industry thinks about doing business, the strategies chosen, the goals set and the measures used to evaluate them.
To continue this journey, the industry agreed on the need to share more information, collaborate where possible and embrace the notion that the best way to manage increasing complexity is through transparent and collaborative approaches to issues.
